The Council for Corporate & School Partnerships, established in March 2001, serves as a forum for the exchange of information, expertise and ideas to ensure that partnerships between businesses and schools achieve their full potential for meeting key educational objectives.
In its first year of activity, the Council conducted significant outreach and opinion research to better understand the dynamics of successful partnerships. This research included interviews with educators from urban, suburban and rural school districts and executives from large, medium and small businesses. The Council used key findings from these interviews to develop a series of Guiding Principles for School-Business Partnerships, which were released in a report in September 2002. The report incorporates key learnings about business and school relationships that have been considered successful.
At the end of 2003, the Council announced the National School and Business Partnerships Award, to recognize school-business partnerships improving the academic, social or physical well-being of students. Winners will be announced as early as spring 2004. In February 2004, the Council released The How-To Guide For School-Business Partnerships, a road map to help schools and businesses successfully create, implement, sustain and evaluate school-business partnerships.
